The aircraft has high skids to enable the mission pod to be fitted underneath the belly of the aircraft. This pod contains the majority of the electronics for the role equipment.
The tail rotor on the EC135 is a Fenestron (ducted fan). It is designed to be quieter than a normal tail rotor and on average produces more thrust than a conventional one. The Fenestron improves safety when using the clamshell doors at the rear, to rapidly load/unload casualties whilst the rotors are running.
The aircraft is fitted with twin Pratt & Whitney 206B2 engines producing 447 SHP
a piece. Fuel consumption is approximately 3.2 Kgs a minute. The normal fuel load
allows the aircraft to remain airborne for 1:40 daytime and 1:10 night. (flight-
