How fast can the helicopter fly? The helicopter can reach speeds of 150kts but will often cruise at around 130kts, although this may not sound very fast it means two miles of ground can be covered in one minute!

How long does it take to get to most incidents? Generally, the helicopter will be airborne and arrive overhead most incidents within 5 to 10 minutes after taking off from its Base. Sometimes this time span can be considerably less, if its was already airborne and diverted to the incident.

How often does the helicopter have to be serviced? As helicopters are mechanically more complex than fixed-

How long can it remain at an incident? The helicopter has an endurance of around two and a half hours on a single tank of fuel. This varies depending on the type of flying such as hovering or orbiting above the scene of an incident.

Why was the helicopter based at Husbands Bosworth? The Base is situated centrally to the communities that it serves. This equates to equal flying time between each county. |
